Privacy Policy
ScreenToCar (iOS and Android) · Effective October 1, 2026
There are no servers, accounts, or analytics. Your screen travels only over the local network (such as your phone's hotspot) between your phone (iPhone or Android) and your car's browser. It is never sent elsewhere or stored.
1. Information we handle (iOS and Android)
- Screen video: processed on your phone only while screen sharing is on, and sent directly to the car's browser on the same local network. It is not recorded or saved.
- App settings (such as quality) and purchase status: stored only on your phone.
- Car access code: see section 2.
- Location (speed): see section 3.
2. Car access code (the ?k= in the address)
The app creates a 6-character access code on your phone, stores it only on your phone, and adds it to the address you open in the car (for example, http://172.20.10.1/?k=ab3xyz). It keeps other devices on the same hotspot or Wi‑Fi from viewing your screen just by knowing the address; connections without the right code are refused. The code does not identify you and is never sent to any server. It stays the same until you reset it in Settings, so you can reopen the address from a bookmark in the car's browser. If the code has been exposed to others, reset it in Settings; the old code stops working, and from your next sharing session you need to open the new address.
The screen and the access code travel over the local network using unencrypted HTTP. Use a network you trust (your own phone's hotspot) and don't share the address with others.
3. Location (safety limit while driving)
Only while screen sharing is on, the app checks your speed on the device. If driving is detected, it limits the car display to 3 frames per second. Location is never stored, never leaves your device, and is used for nothing else. If you don't allow location access or speed is unavailable, sharing still works but stays limited.
4. iOS (iPhone)
- Payments: handled by Apple (App Store). Using Apple's StoreKit, the app checks only Apple-signed purchase records on your device and never receives payment information. Apple's privacy policy applies to payment processing.
- Location: the app asks for "While Using the App" access. While screen sharing is on, it keeps checking speed even when the app is in the background (shown by the blue indicator in the status bar).
- Local network: the app asks for local network access so your car's browser can connect to your iPhone and receive the screen. It is used for nothing else.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions: iPhone Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
5. Android
- Payments: handled by Google Play. Using the Google Play Billing Library, the app only checks your purchase status and never receives payment information. Google's privacy policy applies to payment processing.
- Location: the app asks for location access (precise location recommended) and checks speed only while screen sharing is on.
- Foreground service: while sharing, a foreground service of the screen capture (mediaProjection) and location types runs, and a notification shows that sharing is on. When you stop sharing, the service and location checks stop too. Notification permission is used only to show this sharing notification.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions: Google Play app › Profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions.
6. Sharing with third parties
None. The app uses no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Payments are processed by each store (Apple or Google) under its own policies; the developer never receives payment information.
7. Deletion
Deleting the app removes all settings and purchase status stored on your phone. Your purchases remain with your Apple or Google account, and you can bring them back with "Restore Purchases" after reinstalling.
