Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is Tailtell?

Pick one photo of your cat or dog. Tailtell looks at visible body language (ears, eyes, whiskers, posture and tail) and shows how your pet seems to feel right now: relaxed, happy, alert, anxious or irritable, as probabilities. It also shows the cues behind the result.

Which devices are supported?

iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Apple Intelligence is not required, because the analysis model is built into the app.

What languages does the app support?

English and Korean. It follows your device language.

How do I use it?
  1. On Home, tap "Take a Photo" or "Choose from Library."
  2. If there's more than one animal, pick the one to read.
  3. The result card shows the mood, the cues and discomfort signs.
  4. Tap "Save to History" to add it to a pet profile and see trends on the timeline.

Understanding results

How much can I rely on the results?

A result is a possibility based on what one photo shows, so treat it as a reference, not a verdict. Expressions change moment to moment, and angle, lighting, coat color and breed can hide some cues. If a result surprises you, check the cue chips to see what it read, and try a few more photos of the same moment.

What does it look at?

Cues that animal-behavior research links to mood, such as ear direction, how open the eyes are, whisker shape, body posture and tail position. Cats and dogs signal differently, so Tailtell identifies the species first and then uses species-specific cues.

What are "discomfort signs"?

They show whether the face and posture look unusual, as low, medium or high. For cats, Tailtell refers to the facial areas vets look at for discomfort: ears, eyes, muzzle, whiskers and head position. For dogs, it refers to signs such as ears pinned back, whites of the eyes showing, a tucked tail or a hunched posture. This is not a diagnosis. If "high" keeps appearing for several days, or eating, toileting or activity seems off, please talk to your vet.

It says the photo is blurry or the face is hard to see.

When Tailtell can't see the face well, it tells you instead of guessing. Try again:

  • get down to your pet's eye level
  • use bright light and avoid shooting toward a window
  • keep the face and ears in frame
  • include posture and tail if you can
It says no animal was found.

Very dark photos, a tiny pet in the frame, or only part of the body can make detection fail. Get closer so your pet fills about half the frame. Drawings, toys and photos of screens may not be recognized.

Does it work for other animals?

Right now, cats and dogs only.

Privacy

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Analysis runs on your iPhone, and photos and history stay on the device. There's no account, sign-in, ads or tracking. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected." See the Privacy Policy for details.

Does it work offline?

Yes, analysis works in Airplane Mode. Only purchases and restoring purchases need a connection.

Where does a share card go?

Tapping "Share" opens the iOS share sheet. The card goes only where you choose (Messages, Save Image and so on). Tailtell doesn't send it anywhere else. Discomfort signs are hidden by default, and you can show or hide them before sharing.

How do I delete my data?

Photos and history live only on your device; we have nothing on our side.

  • One record: in your pet's record list, touch and hold a record and choose "Delete Record", or open the record and choose "Delete Record" from the menu at the top right
  • One pet and all its records: on the pet's screen, tap "Edit" › "Delete Profile"
  • Everything: Settings › "Delete All Data" (your purchases are not affected)

Deleting the app also removes all photos and history on the device. If iCloud Backup is on, older backups may still contain app data. Manage them in iPhone Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage › Backups.

Will my history move to a new phone?

The app has no server or iCloud sync. An iCloud or computer backup, or a direct device transfer, may include app data, but this depends on the backup and transfer method. Check that your records appear on the new iPhone before erasing the old one. Use Settings › Restore Purchases to check Pro again.

Purchases & subscriptions

How much can I use for free?

Your first 3 analyses are free, then 1 free analysis a day. Only analyses that return a result count, and the daily count resets at local midnight. Beyond the free limit, results appear blurred, and Pro lets you see them right away.

What does Pro add?

No daily analysis limit. Two options:

  • Pro Annual: 7-day free trial for new subscribers
  • Pro Lifetime: pay once, keep it

Prices are shown in the app and on the App Store for your region.

What happens when the free trial ends?

Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, Pro Annual starts and your Apple Account is charged. Cancel during the trial and you won't be charged.

How do I cancel?

Open iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions, choose Tailtell and tap "Cancel Subscription." You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for. (Apple Support)

How do I get a refund?

App Store purchases are handled by Apple, so we can't issue refunds directly. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com and choose "Request a refund." (Apple Support)

I reinstalled the app or got a new phone, and Pro is gone.

Go to Tailtell Settings › Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account you paid with.

Other

Can it replace my vet?

No. Tailtell is not a medical or veterinary app and doesn't diagnose or treat anything. It's a reference that helps you track your pet's usual self and notice when today looks different. If you're worried, or discomfort signs keep appearing, please contact your vet. If your pet has trouble breathing, is injured, or has changed suddenly, call a vet right away, whatever the app shows.

A result seems off. How do I report it?

Email support@dawonlabs.com with your iPhone model, iOS and app versions, and what happened. The app never attaches a photo automatically. Please do not attach photos containing personal information.

Where can I find open source notices?

In the app, go to Settings › Open Source Licenses. The image recognition model built into the app is based on Google SigLIP 2 and is licensed under the Apache License 2.0.

How do I contact you?
